Windows 7

Overview

7 tips for Windows 7. As we enter the next decade, virtualization is fast becoming a key skill. Although The Mac is fast gaining market share, Windows still rules the corporate market. In this presentation, you’ll get the best of both worlds as we show you how to install and run some productivity-busting features of Windows 7. Although we’re using Mac OSX as the host platform, it could just as easily be Linux or Windows itself

Wrap Up

The Windows 7² Virtualization event was the first NWIITT event of 2010 and was extremely well attended. It was great to see so many old faces and new ones too!

After an informal chat Elaine began the evening by providing an overview of the different versions of Windows 7 available, there are quite a few. She followed this with a brief explanation of virtualization, covering the concepts and what options are available for anyone who wants to run Windows (or any other operating system for that matter) on a Mac.

A copy of the slides is provided below.

Retreating to the sanctuary of her OS X running iMac she then handed over to Mike who provided an in-depth look at VMWare Fusion, including the fastest-ever installation of Windows! Mike showed how to create and configure a virtual machine. He also covered best practices for backing up the virtual machine and how to easily share data between the host machine and the virtualized operating system.

The final part of the presentation was a demonstration of 7 key features of Windows 7, all available for your further enjoyment as video clips (hosted on YouTube)

At the conclusion of the presentation there was a question and answer session and the subsequent chat went on until late.
