The Snipping Tool

Snipping Tool

Windows Vista and Windows 7 include a utility called The Snipping Tool. It is a screen capture tool, that allows users to take screenshots of windows, rectangular areas or a free-form area. Once captured, the image can then be saved as either a jpg, gif or png.

One problem with the Snipping Tool is that if you want to capture a menu, as soon as The Snipping Tool gets the focus, the menu (in the application that you want to capture) disappears from the screen.

A while ago, Mike wrote a tutorial on his blog on how to solve this issue.

When I used Windows, going back a bit there ;-) , I used Hypersnap for screen capture but it’s good to see Microsoft finally adding something more functional than the Print Screen key.

Hopefully they’ll improve on the feature set of the Snipping Tool in future versions.
