Screen Capture

As a trainer the ability to effectively create, manage and work with screen capture is an essential skill.
Thankfully, things have moved well beyond the Print Screen key in recent years and tonight we’ll be demonstrating some of the best of breed screen capture applications together with software to manage and techniques to automate the processing of your captures.
An event not to be missed for anyone who has training materials of any kind to create and a forerunner to our two part event in September when we’re showing how to write a full, repurposable training manual in an hour.
Date and Time
26 August 2010, 20:00 – 21:30 BST
Presenter
Elaine Giles and Mike Thomas
Review
Whether it’s for a user guide, presentation or just to show that you just beat your record score in a game, judging by the number of people in the audience and the pre-presentation chat, taking and editing screen shots is evidently something that is of interest to many people.
In addition to the built-in methods of taking screenshots, we demonstrated a number of applications, both free and paid for, on both the Windows and Mac platform (yes, Elaine left the Windows demos to me). We also covered taking screenshots on an iPhone and iPad and uploading them to a cloud-based service.
Elaine and I worked together to show how to use Dropbox and Hazel to automate the workflow of taking screenshots on Windows and storing them in a specific folder on a Mac.
The applications and services covered included:
Screen capture on Windows
Snipping Tool
OSX built-in shortcuts
Grab
Hypersnap
Dropbox
Hazel
Little Snapper
Ember
Skitch
CloudApp
TinyGrab
TinyGrab for iPhone
Cinder
Thanks to all those who attended, especially Jane in Australia, who got up especially at 2:30am. See you all next time.
