Changing the Default Font in Word

Every Word document is based on a template and it is likely that most documents are based on the NORMAL template. This short tutorial demonstrates how to change the default font for all new documents based on the Normal template in Word 2007. The instructions also apply to Word 2010

Open the Font Dialog Box

On the Ribbon, open the Font dialog box by clicking the small rectangle at the bottom right-hand corner of the Font group on the Home tab (In Word 2010 the Ribbon can be customised and therefore the Font group may not appear in the Home tab)

Amending the Font

Change the settings in the Font dialog box to the desired values. In this example the Font (1) has been set to Arial and the size (2) has been set to 11 points. Click the Default… button to save the new settings as defaults.

Confirm the New Settings
